Hornby No.2 SpecialHornby No.2 Special Ref: OHO100016
Hornby, 7mm O gauge tinplate clockwork model of a SR L1 Class 4-4-0 Inside Cylinder Locomotive and Tender, No.759 in 'Southern' lined green livery. This is a coarse scale model from Hornby/Meccano. It started life in 1929 as a clockwork example. I believe this model was probably made around 1934/35 - the tender has a sprung coupling to the loco, which dates it to around that period. As far as I can tell, the clockwork mechanism is in working order and I've had it running. The model has been restored. The paint finish to the loco is good with the single, rather important, exception that a large 6mm section of paint has started to peel away from between the two centre boiler bands just below the safety dome - and this would need to be sorted out. The model has all four of the lamp irons to the front end - and the one that normally breaks off is on the top of the smokebox door. It has the Hornby logo to the back of the cab near the coupling to the tender. It appears to have original wheels. I would grade the loco as a good B, possibly better. It comes with an original key. The paint finish on the tender is possibly slightly heavier than that on the loco, and it has been hand-lined. I suppose the biggest point to mention about the tender is that it's missing its middle set of wheels, which I don't believe are that difficult to replace. Again, there is some paint loss along the top edge of the right-hand side of the tender, about 30mm by 5mm. The overall impression is of a tidy model - and I think that with some sympathetic restoration it would be a nice model. There are no specific dents or scratches and I think it has had a generally easy life. It is unboxed.

Hornby Series No.2Hornby Series No.2 Ref: OHO10005
Hornby Series, No.2 Special Locomotive, No.1185 which is a LMS 4-4-0 tender locomotive better known as a Compound of course. This example is in LMS lined maroon livery and the running plate and wheels are in red. It is in good working order and comes with a key and its original box. Also included with the loco is a Hornby guarantee, a set of instructions and a slip about track radius and also an application form for joining the Hornby Railway Company, which is a real railway company in miniature with boy directors and officials. The loco is in fine condition - it does have some scratching around the keyhole, also there is a scratch near or on one of the running numbers, but in all other respects it's in fine original condition. The tender's condition is very similar to the loco's - there are a couple of scratches, but the couplings and everything else is fine. Overall, I would grade the loco and tender as B to B+. The box is an original correctly-labelled Hornby Series box. The inner tray is beginning to fall apart (the corners have parted), and one corner of the main lid has parted, and the box is quite grubby and would require a little bit of careful cleaning to bring it up to scratch. There is a sticker on the end of the box, which reads 'LMS'. The loco was probably made around 1930 to 1932.

Hornby Train Meccano MO Set.Hornby Train Meccano MO Set. Ref: OHO40001
Hornby Trains, 7mm O Gauge Train Set comprising a 0-4-0 Tender Locomotive, No. 2595 in green livery with printed splashes and 2 Pullman Coaches, Zena and Joan and a circle of tinplate track and finally a key. Condition is pretty poor, the tinplate on the loco and tender is pretty battered, the mechanism sort of works but the spring doesn't seem to be holding any tension and one of the coaches has lost its roof. It's a rough set and the lid has parted on 2 of the 4 corners, there is a little tear where a label has been removed across the illustration which is quite attractive, it shows something like a Royal Scot class or something like that. Condition is C+.

Hornby Trains, 7mm Gauge O No. 40 Tank Locomotive Reversing Clockwork, No. 82011 in British Railways lined black livery. The model carries the early lion over wheel BR emblem. The model is in full working order, it was manufactured from 1954 to 1960 in this livery variation. It has been played with, there are a few scratches but it still retains an overall sheen to the paint finish. I would probably grade it as a really good B, possibly better B to B+. It comes in an original box which is in fine condition, B+. It has its Hornby key in the original Meccano envelope, it has 4 lamps which again are in the original Hornby envelope, a guarantee slip and a test ticket. Also included in the box are 2 O gauge lead figures, one of whom appears to be a member of the station staff.

Hornby Series No. 2 Special Locomotive.Hornby Series No. 2 Special Locomotive. Ref: OHO100017
Hornby Series, 7mm Gauge O Model "No. 2 Special Locomotive" of a D49 Shire Class 4-4-0 Locomotive and Tender, No. 234 "Yorkshire". Locomotive is finished in LNER lined green livery. This particular variant has a clockwork motor. Looking at the livery I would say it dates from 1931 and 1935. The vacuum pipe is finished in black. The Hornby logo is in the rear plates of the cab below the cab. The model is in totally original condition complete with a pair of original boxes with key and instructions and guarantee slip. Unfortunately it has suffered the ravages of time. I would say certainly two of the wheels, the rear axle set has completely fragmented due to fatigue. They are still in one piece but they would need to be replaced. There is some cracking showing to at least one of the other two driving wheels. The two rear steps below the locomotive cab are both twisted and would need to be straightened out. Viewed side on there is a slight bowing to the chassis or the running plate perhaps, not the chassis. But I am sure this is nothing more than age. The model itself comes with a number of lamps. The paint finish as mentioned is original. While there is minor chipping here and there it is in actually reasonable condition, I would grade the overall look of the locomotive as a good condition B. The tender is about the same condition, it has been used but is in perfectly useable condition and infact both items would benefit from a thorough gentle cleaning. It would make the basis for a restoration project replacing the wheels. I have tried the mechanism but because the wheels are fatigued I couldn't get them to turn so the motor is being sold is affectively untested. The tender box is in lovely condition, the loco box is complete but one corner has parted but I am sure a careful repair would restore that.

Hornby Trains No. 41020.Hornby Trains No. 41020. Ref: OHO10006
Hornby Trains, Gauge O 7mm 0-4-0 Type 101 Tank Locomotive, No. 2270 in LMS lined maroon and black livery. This is a clockwork locomotive, it is in a fine condition. Made for a relatively short time from 1947 through to 1954. This example is in working order, the reverse mechanism is fine. A couple of points it comes with a key which is non original and the knurled nut which goes on the reversing lever has come of, it is in the box but it doesn't particularly want to screw back on, perhaps the thread needs rethreading. There is a couple of scratches to the body side, some paint lost to the dome, couple of scratches here and there, there is a little scratch on the back near the Hornby lettering but the overall impression is reasonably tidy example. It comes in a nice original red box.

Hornby Series 501.Hornby Series 501. Ref: OHO100013
Hornby, Gauge O or 7mm Model 501 which is an 0-4-0 Tender Locomotive, No. 1842 in LNER lined green livery. The model has green wheels. It is clockwork, it comes with its original key and is in fine working order. It is unfortunately unboxed but the general condition is very good. There are one or two nicks to the lining but the paintwork is virtually blemish free which is unusual. There is surface rust showing to the couplings on the tender but with the exception of that it is a clean example.

Hornby, 0 gauge (7mm) No.1 0-4-0 Tank Locomotive, No.623 in LMS lined black livery. This is a clockwork locomotive, comes complete with its key and is in working order. This particular version - I'm guessing - was made between 1926-31. It has Hornby to the smokebox door, it has a brass coloured safety dome, the wheels are coloured red on the spokes. Overall condition is B- to B. It's a used example, the front buffer beam is a little bit dented and there are scratches to the lining etc. but as far as I can tell it's all there. It's unboxed.
