This pack was released in 2005 as a limited edition, containing an A4 Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender, No.2510 "Quicksilver" in LNER silver and grey livery. It is fitted with a single chimney and has a full valance. This is the very latest version of the A4 with the motor in the loco body and sprung buffers - it looks fantastic. With the loco are three Silver Jubilee coaches, comprising an All-3rd no.1586, a further 3rd no.1585 and a Brake 1st no.1581. All are in LNER lined 'Silver Jubilee' livery and look extremely attractive. They have blue interiors and coachboards that read 'Silver Jubilee'. The loco is depicted as it would have been just after Nationalisation, around about 1949, before it was named. It carries the 'Golden Arrow' insignia including the headboard. Along with the loco are three Pullman cars which are the most recent releases from Hornby with sprung buffers and interior lighting comprising car No. 64, "Rosamond" and finally car No. 161. All three are in Pullman chocolate and cream lined livery, they have plain body sides and carry coach boards which read "The Queen of Scots". Box has a few signs of wear, particularly to the little flap on the back that holds the end flap in place. Box condition is B.

Hornby, From the Great British Train Series of Train Packs this is "VR Schools Train Pack". The pack contains a Class V Schools 4-4-0 Locomotive and Tender, No. 30902 "Wellington". Loco is finished in British Railways lined green, the tender carries the later style emblem. There are three Mk 1 coaches comprising two brake 2nd and 1 composite which is correct for this set. The composite is No. S15043 and the brakes are No. S34272 and S34721. These are corridor mk 1, they are all finished in British Railways Southern region green livery. The locomotive has not been used at all, beautiful condition, its B+ to A-. The coaches haven't been used either however there is a couple of handling marks to one of the coaches, they are very minor certainly does not detract from the set. There is one other issue which is on one coach there is a line in the paintwork which at first glass appears to be a crack but it is infact a paint blemish, it is within the paint. It is not very noticeable but it is there it is obviously a factory issue which wasn't caught at the time. Condition of the coaches is B to B+. The set comes with a set of instructions, unused detailing parts and a limited edition certificate which is No. 1329 of 1500. The box is in reasonable condition, the cellophane is a bit loose in the window part of the box. The lid is in tidy condition.

Hornby, A special presentation edition from the series of "Great British Trains" this is a train pack "The Heart of Midlothian". The pack contains an A4 Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender, No. 60020 "Guillemot". Loco is finished in British Railways lined green livery. The tender which has a none corridor type has the latest style British Railways emblem. The loco is running with a double chimney and without valances. Along with the locomotive are three British Railways Mk 1 Coaches, 2 composites No. E15770 and E15700, finally a brake 2nd coach, No. E34225. All three in British Railways lined maroon livery. The coaches carry the British Railways roundel emblems. Locomotive has got the crew fitted to the footplate, they have been painted and look extremely good. Condition of the loco is B to B+, I don't think it has been used, the wheels are shiny, the handrail is very slightly discoloured. Coaches are the same condition. Along with the locomotive are a set of instructions dated 1997 and a limited edition certificate No. 1158 from a run of 3000 pieces. Condition of the box is a reasonable B to B+, the only thing I would say is the little sticker on the back of the box states that this is R2031 which is the Bristolian which is obviously incorrect.

The eastern region coach is incorrect for this set it should actually be a western region brake 2nd. The contents have been used, the loco itself has been on display and is a little dusty. Model has been used along with the coaches they are generally tidy, one or two slight handling marks I would grade the entire set as a good condition B. It comes with a limited edition certificate No. 1945 of a run of 3000 and a set of instructions. Box condition is B to B+, a tidy example.

Along with the loco are three centenary style coaches, 2 composites No. W6658W and W6661W and a brake 2nd No. W4580W. All three carry coach boards which read "Paddington Bath Bristol Western Super Mare". They are finished in British Railways crimson and cream lined livery. The models have all been lightly used, unmarked clean condition. I would grade them all as B+ There is unused detailing parts and a set of instructions. Box condition is B to B+

Hornby, from the Great British Trains collection, this is "Manchester United Train Pack". Pack contains a B17 Class 4-6-0 Locomotive and Tender, No.2862 "Manchester United" in LNER lined green livery. Along with the loc are three Gresley LNER coaches - two Composites No.24367 and No.24337 and a Brake Composite No.1076, all in LNER teak-style finish with grey roofs and white-rimmed wheels. The models appear to be lightly used, the loco appears unrun, the coaches have been used. and I would grade them all as B+ to A-. Along with the models, there are an unopened detail pack and instructions dated 1997. This is a limited edition and it comes with certificate no.827 from a run of just 1,500 pieces. The box is in nice, clean, tidy condition and it comes with its original outer cardboard sleeve as well.

Hornby, "The Boxed Set" comprising British Railways Rebuilt Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender, No.35027 "Port Line Merchant Navy Class" in British Railways green livery with the later style crest to the tender. This is an interesting set, as it is one of the premier boxed sets from Hornby. Depicted on the outer label are three Southern Region coaches, but the set was actually supplied with three of the latest Pullman coach (the ones with the interior lights). I'm not sure if this was a cock-up or whether it was intentional. So, this set contains three Pullman coaches: "Leona", "Car No.65 Third Class" (a brake), and "Car No.35 Third Class". All three are in Pullman chocolate and cream livery with fret-board style finish. They are beautiful vehicles with sprung buffers and working lights - and they are all in unused condition, as is the loco. Additionally, there is a Hornby HM2000 controller, the virtual railway CD, the owner's manual with all the different lots of paperwork, a quantity of track including two points, a power clip and all the necessary cabling etc. Condition is A, it's all in unused condition. Box condition is A. Box comes in its outer cardboard box, which states that the contents are R1043 Mail Order Special, so the contents must have been intentional.

Hornby, Mallard Live Steam Set. This is an impressive large set, containing Gresley A4 Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender, No.4468 "Mallard" in LNER garter blue livery. This is a live steam loco, which comes complete with everything needed to operate and maintain it. Included are a special control box, transformer, steam oil, protective gloves, water syringe, steam oil and maintenance tools. The appropriate track and power clips are also included. While the model has been used, it is in good condition - unmarked, clean and tidy. I understand that it is in full working order, although we haven't tested it. One thing to bear in mind though is that it is very heavy - probably weighs about 6-7 kilos I would think. It comes with a large quantity of paperwork. FOR ADULTS ONLY - it's live steam and gets hot, so is not suitable for children.

Hornby, The Partial Contents of a Train Set "Flying Scotsman" includes A3 Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender, No. 4472 "Flying Scotsman" and 4 Gresley Corridor Teak style coaches comprising Composite No. 22356, Composite No. 22357, Brake Composite No. 4236 and Brake Composite No. 4237. This is the slightly older version of the Flying Scotsman with the motor in the tender. The tender is a corridor type, the loco has a round dome and a single chimney. All the coaches have metal wheels. They are all in fine condition, I believe they have only been test run a few times, there is no marks or rubs and the wheels are all shiny. Nice clean train all round. Condition is B+ or better. The box which has been split in half so it could be posted more easily comes without any track or controller. Box condition is B.

Hornby, Special Boxed Train Set "Orient Express". Extremely well-packaged, this is one of the Premier model railway sets from Hornby. The contents comprise a Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender, No.35012 "United States Lines" in British Railways lined green livery with late crest to the tender. Accompanying the loco are three of the latest Hornby Pullman cars consisting of 'Minerva', Cygnus' and 'Ibis' - all three are in British Railways Pullman chocolate and cream livery and feature working interior lights and sprung buffers - beautiful coaches. Hornby Railways, Electric Train Set "Night Mail Express". This is the super sound version of this train set which contains a Duchess Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender, No. 46251 "City of Nottingham". Locomotive is finished in British Railways lined maroon livery, the tender carrying the later style crest. With the loco is a Royal Mail TPO, No. M30250M and a Ex. Stanier Ex LMS Stanier Composite Coach, No. M4316, finally Ex. LMS Stanier Brake 2nd, No. M5750. The coaches are all in lined maroon. There is a large oval of track, a controller, the necessary equipment to operate the TPO, various accessories including telegraph poles, height gauge, gradient and mile posts, 2 sets of 4 inclines, power clip and a super sound unit. Made in 1992 and 1993 with about 4400 being made. This one has not been used, most of the accessories are still sealed in their plastic bags. It comes with all the appropriate paperwork. Condition of the loco and stock is A- and everything else is the same condition. The lid is intact and in reasonable condition, B to B+.

Hornby Railways, Electric Train Set "The Iron Duke" containing a 4-6-2 Britannia Class Locomotive and Tender, No. 70047. This is the austerity version of this model, it is unlined and is without smoke deflectors. Hard to find it to be honest these days. Along with the loco are two British Railways Mk 1 Coaches, a composite and a brake, No. 15210 and 34100 both in BR red and cream. There should be a third coach but that is missing. It its place the previous owner has put 3 goods wagons, a van, a open mineral wagon and a north eastern brake van. The rolling stock is a battery controller, an oval of track, some gradient posts, a set of buffers, an uncoupling ramp and a pair of tunnel portals. The loco is in fine condition, it appears to be un run. It is in lovely unmarked, as is everything else in the box. Even the packaging is slightly austerity, it doesn't really have a box it comes in an inner polystyrene tray with a pictorial card insert is the only way to describe it which is the same size as the inner tray. The whole think comes in an outer cardboard box which again is unmarked.

Hornby, Electric Train Set "Motorail". The set contains a Class 37 Co-Co Diesel Electric Type 3 Locomotive, No. 37063 in Railfreight large logo grey livery with full yellow ends. The loco has split headcodes and is in an attractive livery. The loco is accompanied by two ex. stanier blood and custard corridor coaches, a composite No. M4329 and a brake 2nd No. M26546. Both in BR blood and custard. The brake actually looks slightly paler blood and custard than the composite. Also there is a bogie car transporter with a load of 3 Minix cars, this is the later versions with the black wheels. Also included is a large oval of track, a home signal, a set of right hand points, a cassette with Hornby Railways instructions, a level crossing, a crossing hut, a road rail ramp obviously for driving the cars of the car transporter and a power controller. All the contents are condition B to B+. The track appears to be unused, very nice condition. The inner tray is reasonable, it comes with a large quantity of paperwork. This set was released in 1989, it was made for Argos and about 2800 were made. It is not a set you see very often. The lid is the window style lid, while it is intact it is a little very slightly tatty. It has a nice illustration to the lid.

Contain Class 35 Hymek B-B Diesel Locomotive, No.D7063 in British Railways two-tome green livery with small yellow warning panels, and five wagons comprising Closed Van "Smiths Crisps", a Long Wheelbase Closed Van "McVities", Steel Mineral Wagon no.6390 "Bolsover", a further Closed Van "Prime Pork" and a United Dairies Milk Tank Wagon. There is a large oval of track, a pair of signals (one home and one distant), a level crossing, an uncoupler, a power clip, tunnel and mains power controller. All items are intact and unused. The only point I would raise is that there is some very slight discoloration to the rails. Condition is B+ to A-. Box condition is B+. All together a nice set. I understand the set was made for the Co-op in 1978, borne out by the fact that it has instructions dated 1978.
