This London 1948 train pack, limited to just 1,948 features an exLNER Class N2 locomotive in the then newly applied nationalised British Railways livery, while the coaches show their heritage as LNER, still unpainted but with BR numbering applied. Hornby, Train Pack 'The Last Single Wheeler' Containing: ex Caledonian 4-2-2 locomotive and tender, 14010 in LMS lined Crimson, along with 3 ex Caledonian LMS coaches, Designed in part by Dugald Drummond who was the Chief Engineer of the Caledonian Railway and built as a solitary example of its class by Neilson & Co in 1886, the 4-2-2 saw extensive service in the late 19th Century when operating the express service between Carlisle and Edinburgh, known at the time as "Race to Scotland". After the First World War the 4-2-2 locomotive was reserved for hauling the director’s coach but in 1930 after acquiring the Crimson Lake livery of the LMS the locomotive reverted back to ordinary traffic working local train services between Perth and Dundee making it the last Single Wheeler to work in traffic in the British Isles. Hornby R2908, 'Fireworks at Chilcompton' Train Pack, Limited Edition,, A series of Special L/E Train Packs Inspired by the paintings of Kent Artist 'Barry J Freeman' , 'Fireworks at Chilcompton' contains Streamlined (un-rebuilt) West Country Class 4-6-2 Locomotive, 34062 'Dorchester' in BR early green DCC Ready and 3 ex(LMS) Stanier coaches in BR maroon. , along with a print of the painting ' Fireworks at Chilcompton' The Somerset & Dorset had a rather complicated history but after1948 the line basically remained unchanged until closure in 1966. In 1951 which is the subject of the painting, one of "Bullied's "West Country" Class pacifics ran a series of trials over the line. Chilcompton Tunnel was the back drop for this painting where "Dorchester" can be seen pulling a rake of exLMS coaches out of the tunnel avoiding a grass fire that had started on the nearside. A group of permanent way workers can be seen waiting for the train to pass so that they can asses the situation.
