Freeman only saw one streamlined "Coronation" and this was when he was a young boy eagerly train spotting one sunny afternoon, however the image remained with him when he was asked to create a painting depicting "City of Chester" in the LMS lined crimson lake livery under a full head of steam as it tackled the long climp up to Shap summit he jumped at the chance. In 1951 which is the subject of the painting, one of "Bullied's "West Country" Class pacifics ran a series of trials over the line. Chilcompton Tunnel was the back drop for this painting where "Dorchester" can be seen pulling a rake of exLMS coaches out of the tunnel avoiding a grass fire that had started on the nearside. Hornby, 'The Bournmouth Belle' Train Pack, containg, Britannia Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and tender, No 70009 'Alfred the Great', in BR early green along with 3 of the brand new 12 Wheel Pullman coaches The Bournemouth Belle train service was first inaugurated by the Southern Railway in 1931 and operated until nationalisation in 1948 with the service being postponed during the Second World War. However, after 1948 the service was subsequently operated by British Railways until withdrawal on the 9 July 1967. Initially the service operated out of Waterloo Station calling at Southampton, Bournemouth and Weymouth but was later amended so that it terminated at Bournemouth West. This Hornby Bournemouth Belle pack features a BR Britannia Class locomotive, "Alfred the Great", plus three 12 wheel Pullman Cars simulating part of the service as it would have been seen in the early 1950s. An additional pack containing three further 12 wheel Pullman cars is also available to extend the train. Hornby, The Devon Belle Train Pack, contains West Country Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and tender, No 34007 'Wadebridge' in British Railways green with early crest, 2 Pullman cars, and the brand new Observation Car. The Devon Belle Pullman commenced in 1947 and operated during the summer months for 7 years with the final train running at the end of the 1954 summer carrying holiday makers to theWest coast of England. There were two rakes of specially prepared Devon Belle Pullmans commissioned each with their own Observation Car at the rear of the train. The Observation Cars were converted from old Third Class cars and were fitted with a refreshment buffet as well as a small pantry and kitchen. The fitted seats were were either double settees or swivelling single armchairs and with an almost uninterrupted view all around due to a virtual continuous wall of window glass they proved to be very popular with the holidaymakers who could sit and while enjoying some light refreshments see the countryside recede behind them!
