Kirdon, Mainline Diesel Electric Co-Co Locomotive, No.10000 in British Railways black livery lined in silver with the early lion-over-wheel crest. This was a ready-to-run loco from Kirdon, based in Hanwell, London. And it's quite an amazing job too. It has heavy diecast bogies with a centre rail pick-up, and a motor - which incredibly is in working order - that has a sort of band operation, which takes the power from the motor down to a shaft in the bogie. A very unusual arrangement - I wouldn't like to take one to pieces. To modernise: the paint job and finish are a bit lumpy - but that's the way they were. The model is fitted with Hornby Dublo style couplings. It is in marvellous condition - probably as good as you could hope to find with a loco of this complexity, fragility and vintage. I would grade its condition as B+. It comes in a delightful original Kirdon box, which has the name of the loco at one end, and when the lid is opened there is a black and white illustration of the model and details of the prototype such as weight, tractive effort etc. It's a great example of a truly difficult-to-find model. Box condition is B.

Kirdon, 10,000 Class diesel electric loco body kit. Dating from the early 1950s, Kirdon are better known for their ready-to-run version of this locomotive. This is the first time I have actually seen a Kirdon kit of the 10,000 Class. Having checked through the parts list, there are one or two things missing including the buffers, one horn and the wooden base that went with this kit. Condition B. Some of the mouldings, by today's standards, are a little rough and need the flash cleaning off them. Comes with metal bogie frames and a set of instructions. Box condition B. (Slightly dirty but, considering its age, in good collectable condition). A highly unusual chapter in model railway history
