Condition B+ in a B+ box, with instructions and detail pack. NOTE: coal has been added to the teder ( not the best job I have seen) Devoid of easily damaged detail parts the suitably livered RailRoad locomotives are fitted with efficient drive mechanisms and have pickups on all drive wheels ensuring smooth running. All the RailRoad models are fitted with the standard Hornby hook and bar type couplings and will therefore easily couple to those locomotives and rolling stock in both the standard Hornby ranges.

Although some A4s were built with single chimneys, all were eventually fitted with double chimneys and a number were fitted with corridor tenders to facilitate crew changes on the move. Gresley, being a keen ornithologist, is believed to have influenced the naming of the second batch of Class A4 locos using the names of the faster flying British birds. The original livery of black and apple green was replaced in1948 to British Railways experimental purple/dark blue when it was also renumbered 60027.At this time the round plaques, depicting a flying Merlin and fitted in 1946 to the cab sides, were moved to the boiler sides. Displaced in 1962 by the Class 55's and 47's, 'Merlin' was first re-allocated to Edinburgh St. Margaret's then later to Glasgow St. Rollox for a further few years until finally being withdrawn from service in September 1965.
