Prototype 4000HP Co-Co diesel loco, No HS4000 ' Kestrel' Prototype 4000HP Co-Co diesel loco, No HS4000 ' Kestrel' Ref: SF10001
Silver Fox, 4000HP prototype Co-Co diesel electric locomotive, No HS4000 ' Kestrel' in brown and yellow livery, with the later style class 47 modified bogies. With a hand finished and spray painted resin body, this model is fitted to a new Bachmann modified chassis. In these days of mass production it's refreshing to find a product designed and made by an individual and a subject that might not be commercially viable for the large volume manufactures made in very limited runs of perhaps 50 or less Delivered new from Brush works in 1968 as a possible design for the British and export markets, it was then the most powerful diesel locomotive in the world with 4,000hp on tap. Used on a variety of freight traffic until British Railways decided the axle loading was too high, so in 1969 'Kestrel' was re-bogied with modified Class 47 bogies. Later that year saw the locomotive on regular passenger turns working out of Kings Cross. After an engine overhaul in 1970 'Kestrel' was retuned to freight duties, which is where it stayed until Brush sold the locomotive to the USSR in the summer of 1971.

Prototype Type 4 Co-Co prototype diesel loco, No D0260 'Lion' Prototype Type 4 Co-Co prototype diesel loco, No D0260 'Lion' Ref: SF10002
Silver Fox, Type 4 Co-Co prototype diesel locomotive, No D0260 'Lion' in the highly unusual white livery lined in gold!. With a hand finished and spray painted resin body, this model is fitted to a new Bachmann modified chassis. In these days of mass production it's refreshing to find a product designed and made by an individual and a subject that might not be commercially viable for the large volume manufactures made in very limited runs of perhaps 50 or less. Lion, which was built in 1962 at the BRCW works in the Midlands, was constructed as a private prototype in the hope of garnering orders from British Railways. The loco saw test running over the Devon banks and the ECML. The locomotive suffered a number of power plant problems which saw it returned to the BRCW works in 1963. The company was in financial difficulty and with the order for type 4 loco's going to Brush, the decision was taken to scrap Lion after an unbelievable working life of only 18 months.
