Airfix Railway System 540Airfix Railway System 540 Ref: AR500005
Airfix, Model Railway Set "Wild West Adventure Train Set" which contains a 4-4-0 Jupiter Locomotive with Tender, Passenger Car with special trap door in roof, Baggage Car with exploding doors, an oval of track, a battery controller and a Wild West module which appears all to be unused. The module includes a gantry, a log cabin, a detonator and a number of cowboys - it's fascinating. Everything appears complete. In addition there are instructions for the locomotive, a set of instructions on Airfix Railways sets and a special instruction book and story book on the Wild West Adventure Story. The contents and the boxes within the main box are in lovely condition and I would grade them all as B+ or better. The outside lid is complete but, like most set lids, the corners have suffered, one corner is missing a piece and the other three have all been repaired. It's a large set.
Price: £165.00 / $247.50

Lima, Train Set, comprising Class 50 Co-Co Diesel Electric Type 4 Locomotive, No.50041 "Bulwark" in Network South East bright blue livery. Accompanying the loco are two Mk2 British Railways coaches: an all-1st Corridor Coach, no.13435 and an Open 2nd Coach, no.5456 - both in Network South East bright blue livery and uniquely numbered for this set only. Included in the set, are an oval of Lima track, a Lima Power Control Unit stamped with the Lima Models logo and 'Transfe', two sets of instructions and some detailing parts. All the contents are in unused condition - I would grade them as B+ to A-. It's a really great example of a very hard-to-find set. The inner tray is in good condition apart from a crack to the bottom, but this does not detract. The lid is intact; however, there are Sellotape repairs to the inside of two corners, and the edges are worn. A very interesting set.

Rivarossi Train Set.Rivarossi Train Set. Ref: RIV40001
Rivarossi, British (HO) Gauge Electric Train Set made around 1979. This was the only train set Rivarossi made for the British market with British outline models. It contains parallel boiler, Royal Scot class 4-6-0 Locomotive and tender, No. 6140 "Hector". Loco is finished in LMS lined maroon livery. It is fitted with smoke deflectors. The loco has been lightly used but it is in good running order, it is a very smooth runner. It is currently fitted with Rivarossi style continental couplings but it is supplied with Tri-ang or Hornby style couplings. There has been a little bit of oil migration, slightly obvious on the tender but easily cleaned. Condition is B+. With the locomotive come 4 coaches comprising coach No. 2931 which is a corridor 3rd, No. 14289 in LMS lined maroon livery. Next is No. 2932, a corridor vestibule 1st class coach, No. 15604 in LMS lined maroon. Next is No. 2933, a corridor vestibule 1st class coach, No. 15933. Finally No. 2935, a corridor 3rd, No. 14250 in LMS lined maroon. All four coaches come fitted with continental couplings but are supplied with unopened detailed packs containing couplings and coach end boards. While they have all been used the condition is lovely, they are all B to B+. All come in separate individual boxes, inside one large set box with two "LMS" card filler pieces making the set complete. The only thing missing is the cellophane from the lid, with the exception of that it is a great example of a hard to find set made about 1979-80. Also included is a Rivarossi catalogue.
Price: £220.00 / $330.00

Hornby Dublo 2023.Hornby Dublo 2023. Ref: DU400015
Hornby Dublo, Two Rail Electric Train Set "The Caledonian Passenger Train". The set contains a Duchess Class 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender, No. 46245 "City of London" in British Railways part lined maroon livery. The tender carries the later style British Railways emblem. There are two super detail tinplate sided Mk I coaches, a composite No. E15770 and a brake 2nd No. E35173 both in British Railways lined maroon livery. There is an oval of track including a power clip, a locomotive head board which reads "The Caledonian" still in its original packaging, a small quantity of spare fish plates for the track, a guarantee slip, a set of instructions for the loco and a further guarantee slip for the train set itself as opposed to the loco. The engine is in very tidy condition, it still has the test certificate attached to the motion. It looks like it has only had a few runs, it is very clean, the wheels are still shiny. There is no chippings to the body, the only point I would raise and it maybe just something I am not describing properly is the edge of the running board lining which is in yellow is a little bit worn and in places badly applied and I am not sure whether that means it has been done later touched up or whether it left the factory like that. Condition of the loco is definitely a B+. The coaches are both clean and unmarked, condition is B+. They have coach boards which are in the form of paper stickers which are stuck to the body sides which I believe were the originals which came with the set "The Caledonian London Glasgow". The pack appears to be clean and generally unmarked. The inner inserts are made from card and are very clean and tidy, I would grade them as B to B+. The box lid has been reinforced at the corners with cellotape and at least along one of the edges, its faded slightly and looks grubby although it still has a nice illustration. Box condition is B. Contents B+.

Hornby Dublo, Two Rail Electric Train Set "264 Tank Goods ". The set contains a 4MT Standard Class 2-6-4 Tank Locomotive, No. 80033 in British Railways lined black livery with late emblem to the tank sides. It is reasonably clean and tidy, there is some chipping particularly around the chimney and around the edge of the tanks particularly to one side, in all other respects it is clean and tidy and it is certainly consummate in terms of condition with the rest of the set. There are four goods wagons which comprise a flat wagon, No. B459325 with a Insul-Meat container in white, a further 13 tonne black wagon, No. B459325 with a die cast metal tractor load. The tractor is in blue and appears to be unused. Further there is a long wheel base bolster wagon, No. B920022 in British Railways grey with a wooden log load. Finally a 20 tonne brake van, No. B950350 in British Railways brown. All appear to be only very slightly used, perhaps 2 or 3 times out of the box, that kind of thing. Condition is B to B+. The set comes with an oval of Hornby Dublo track, a quantity of spare fish plates, one of the curves has a power clip. Further there is a set of instructions for the locomotive, a guarantee slip and a photocopy of a servicing sheet for the tank engine. The inserts are made from card, showing signs of wear, one or two marks here and there and one or two tears. Condition is B. The lid shows an attractive illustration has suffered some damage, the corners have been repaired and there is a hole to the top of the lid which has been repaired also. Still it looks clean and tidy.

Hornby Dublo, Electric Train Set, "Set 2007 0-6-0 Tank Passenger Set SR". Made from 1959, this is a lovely set containing the R1 Class 0-6-0 Tank Locomotive, No.31340 in British Railways Southern Region unlined green livery with late crest to the sides. There are two coaches - a Suburban Composite no.S41060 and a Suburban Brake no.S43374 - both in Southern Region green livery. Also included is a circle of track, power clip, the 'tested' ticket on the loco, guarantee slip and instructions for operating 0-6-0 tank locomotives. As far as the contents go, it really doesn't get much better than this - they all appear to be unused and unmarked - and I would grade everything including the track as B+ to A-. The inner tray is a good B+, a little rub to one spot. The lid has not been repaired and is intact, and I would grade it as a good B.

Hornby Dublo 2050.Hornby Dublo 2050. Ref: DU400018
Hornby Dublo, Electric Train Set "Suburban Electric Train". Dating from the 1960's this is one of the last Hornby Dublo train sets with an attractive pictorial lid to the box. The set contains a two car Class 501 Suburban EMU comprising a power car No. S65326 and a none powered trailer car No. S77511. Both vehicles are finished in British Railways southern region green livery. This is a two rail set and along with the EMU is a circle of track complete with power clip. Condition, starting with the power car, it is a very tidy example, it is in virtually mint condition. One side is absolutely spot on, the other there is a very very small scratch but it certainly does not detract, it is not apparent. The roof is clean and tidy, I would grade the power car as B+ to A-. The trailer car, one side again is in virtually mint condition, the other has got three scratches. One is about 3mm long near one of the door handles and the other two are about 1½ mm long. The two small ones are virtually indistinguishable but the one near the door handle is quite noticeable with its base metal showing through so it should be able to be touched up without too much problem. I would grade it as a good B to B+. The inner tray is showing signs of wear and there is a little bit of graffiti which should rub out. The lid, its quite scuffed, the picture is reasonably bright. There has been some repairs to the inside of the box lid but it has been well done. Additionally there is a set of instructions and a test ticket. Very attractive set, hard to find.

Hornby Dublo, A Two Rail Electric Train Set "280 Express Goods Train". The set contains an 8F Class 2-8-0 Locomotive and Tender, No. 48073 in British Railways black livery. The tender carries the later style emblem. Along with the loco is a short wheel base tanker "Shell Lubricating Oil", a 13 tonne Open Wagon No. B477015 in grey, a Refrigerator Van No. W59850, a Weltrol Bogie Well Wagon No. B901006 in British Railways grey and finally an Ex. LMS 20 tone brake van, No. M730012 in British Railways grey. Along with the stock is an oval of track, one of which has a power clip, there is also a separate bag containing fish plates for the track. Loco is in good condition, there are one or two chips to the paintwork but it is all pretty minor. Looking at the wheels they are shiny so it has seen very little use. It is easily condition B to B+. The same goes for the wagons, they have all got plastic wheels of course and they all appear to be about the same amount of usage as the loco. They have all got closed brake gear. In all a nice tidy, clean set. It comes with a guarantee slip and a photocopy set of instructions for the loco. It has a card inserts which is relatively clean and tidy. The lid has had some repairs to the corners, and one corner has parted but even so it is a nice tidy lid with a nice illustration on the front. Condition of the contents is B to B+. Condition of the box and lid is condition B.

Graham FarishGraham Farish Ref: GF400004
Graham Farish, 00 gauge Graham Farish Train Set "Scale Model Railroad". Truly fabulous set from Farish dating from around 1950-52. Containing 4-6-0 Black Five tender locomotive, No.44753 in British Railways black livery with early crest to tender side, in its original box. Along with five goods wagons, a brake van and six curved tracks. The tracks are amazing, they are actually made out of an alloy base with steel rails and with, what looks like, fibre sleepers. It's in excellent condition. The wagons are made up of individual boxes plus a box that holds three with a picture of a locomotive on them. The wagons comprise a ventilated twin vent van in brown, an open 7 plank wagon in grey, an open 5 plank wagon, an open 7 plank wagon in brown and a steel mineral wagon in brown. There's also a British Railways brown brake van. They're all in truly excellent condition, except there is a bit of frosting to the chassis metalwork - which is not unusual. The wheels are plastic. Inside the inner box is a large display tray which says "Scale Model Railroads by Graham Farish" with an illustration. The Black 5 is in working order. Hard to find a set in this condition. Amusingly, on the lid, it says - and this is a factory label - "see that the locomotive is in running order before acceptance"; it gives you some indication of how reliable they were. This example of a Black Five is in fine working order. I would grade the box as condition B- to B, the lid is intact which is quite remarkable but the corners are very worn but the illustration is still bright and clear. The box while showing signs that it is over 50 years old is in great collectable condition.
