Tri-ang Hornby, Electric Train Set "The Freightmaster". Slightly later on in the production of this immensely popular set, this is the Class 31 A1A Diesel Electric Type 2 Locomotive, No. D5572 and according to the sticker on the lid it is in the new BR livery, which it is, it is in blue. It comes with 7 Tri-ang Hornby Wagons comprising a cattle car, a horse box, a tanker wagon, a triple container carrier, a Tri-ang container, a brake van and a drop sided wagon. Along with that is an oval of track. The contents while they have been lightly used are very clean and tidy, it has certainly stood the test of time. Possibly the only thing I would raise is that on the cattle wagon the roof appears to have been over painted in grey. Everything else is in excellent condition. The inner tray is good, the box lid is good. I would grade the contents as B to B+ and the box as a good condition B.

Triang Hornby RS607, "Local Passenger Set".Triang Hornby RS607, "Local Passenger Set". Ref: Th400060
Triang Hornby, Electric Train Set "Local Passenger Set". This set, released around 1971, contains the M7 Class 0-4-4 Tank Locomotive, No.328 in Southern lined green livery, along with two Southern Railway coaches - the first of which is a Mk1 no.5015 in dark green with white roof, and the second is a Caledonian style coach, no.5015 in dark green livery with white roof. Both coaches have white-walled tyres. Also included is a circle of track and a power clip. According to Pat Hammond's second volume, this set was to have had the ex-Caledonian coaches but it was later changed to a pair of Mk1s. This set has one of each, so you can make your mind up whether one or the other has been replaced, or whether this was how it came from Hornby - I think your guess is a good as mine. The loco is in lovely condition, completely unmarked and nice and fresh looking, with the exception of a crack that runs through the front buffer beam (something I've seen many times with this particular loco) and a mark behind one of the rear spectacle windows above the bunker, but this is not very noticeable. The model features the opening smokebox door. Overall condition is B to B+, bearing in mind the crack. The coaches have been used but they are clean - I would grade them as B to B+. The inner tray is intact and the lid is in pretty much undamaged condition although there are some tears on the side where Sellotape has been torn off. It's a little grubby, but it's all there, and it includes a lovely illustration on the lid. I understand around 4,000 sets were sold in the UK with a further 700 or so being sold overseas.
